Lisbuck Fort in County Donegal is a roughly oval raised area about twenty-two metres across, sitting on a prominent rise above cultivated land. It is called a fairy fort in local tradition, which may explain why people stopped building there and left the earth undisturbed. The name suggests buck or female goat, perhaps a marker for a boundary, a warning or a joke told until it became fact. Whatever it was, the field around it has been worked for generations while the mound itself has been left alone.
