Leopold McClintock

McClintock was born in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland, on 8 July 1819, the second oldest son of a customs collector and one of fourteen children. He joined HMS Samarang at Portsmouth in July 1831, aged just 12 years old, as a Gentleman Volunteer under Capt. Charles Paget, who would later marry one of his sisters.
