What is recorded here
Leamlara Castle stands as a low rectangular ruin on a scarped knoll, its walls barely rising two metres above the overgrown ground. The remains preserve a door jamb, mural stair steps, window ingoings, a garderobe chute, and a small wall press, marking a tower house built for private defence and daily life. The lost castle may have watched the land below, served its residents, and fallen into ruin before memory faded.
On top of a scarped knoll, in demesne of Leamlara House; heavily overgrown remains of rectangular tower (11.3m E-W; 7.4m N-S) surviving to max. H 2m. Surviving features include: rounded corners; W jamb of door near E end of S wall; lower steps of straight mural stair in E wall rising from SE corner; W ingoing of window in N wall and splayed S ingoing of window or loop in W wall; garderobe chute exit near S end of W wall; and small wall press at Send of W wall (interior). 1935 OS 6-inch map marks site of 'Castle Moat' immediately N of ruins; no visible remains of such a feature though site listed as 'possible motte' by Glasscock (1975, 105).
