Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Lady's Folly, Penmanshiel as Barrow (prehistoric)(possible), Cairn (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

A prehistoric cairn, likely dating to the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, associated with funerary or ritual practices common in southern Scotland. Its classification as a possible barrow suggests it may represent an early form of burial mound.
