Clane, County Kildare, is the birthplace of Kristine O'Brien, the American rower who took gold in the coxless four at the 2015 World Rowing Championships. She left Ireland at two years old and later rowed for the United States, winning another gold in the eight at the 2018 World Championships. A small Irish town gave birth to a woman who would lead American boats across world water.
