Knockaunawaddra is a small pastoral platform standing five metres above forgotten Clare bogland. It witnessed the rise and fall of local industry, sitting beside a disused lime kiln and old cultivation ridges. The land has absorbed human ambition, turning busy work into quiet soil while the hillock remains visible above the scrub.

A prominent hillock rises c. 5m above the surrounding bog and low scrub. The hillock itself is an area of coarse pasture while the general area is cut (disused) overgrown bogland. Newly planted conifers stand 150m away to the NW and E with more mature trees visible to S. Some bog is still in use farther to the S while immediately to the W traces of old cultivation ridges are visible. This hillock is named 'Knockaunawaddra' on the 1842 and 1920 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. Named 'Cnocán an Mhadra' on Robinson's (1977) map. On the 1897 OS 25-inch plan a point 68m to the NE is marked and labelled 'Lime Kiln (Disused)'. Listed as 'Enclosure (possible)' in the RMP (1996). The compact summit comprises a slightly sloping, roughly oval-shaped area (c. 11m E-W; 7m N-S) defined by a faint scarp (max. H 0.5m at S).
