Knock Castle, Slipway stands in North Ayrshire as a twentieth-century building, its shape still defined by the practical demands of the water beside it. The stones may have guided heavy loads or hidden the labour of people whose names vanished before the castle received its own. Whatever it did, it did not decorate the coast; it served the coast, and the coast kept the result.
