Kinnaird Castle, West Lodge

Gate Lodge (period Unassigned)

What is recorded here

West Lodge still stands before Kinnaird Castle in Angus, a small gate house whose exact age has never been recorded. It may have watched carts, riders or hungry dogs pass for centuries, directing them toward the main castle or away from private ground. That uncertainty does not weaken the lodge; it refuses to be reduced to a single date or a single owner.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Kinnaird Castle, West Lodge as Gate Lodge (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
