Kilnabasty is a children's burial ground in County Galway where unnamed infants and possibly lepers from Loughrea's medieval hospital rested together, excluded from ordinary Christian rites. The D-shaped field holds small upright stones and a lone hawthorn, marking generations of marginalised dead whose names never entered records. What began as a place for those cast out by disease may have become a place for those cast out by doctrine, its purpose shifting while its sadness remained the same.
