What is recorded here
Killoghan Children’s Burial Ground marks a small subtriangular corner of the limestone ridge where young lives ended before they could leave the valley. The bank is low enough that cattle may have walked across it for centuries, yet the angle of two field boundaries still preserves the shape of a place set apart for the smallest dead. Whitethorn and briars choke the interior now, hiding flat stones that may have stood as markers or fallen from clearance. The pasture looks ordinary until the angle of the boundary appears, then the ground remembers what it swallowed.
On the level plateau of a limestone ridge, in lush pasture. Indicated in the angle of two field boundaries on the 25-inch OS map and the 1921 6-inch OS map and named Killoghan Children’s Burial Ground. A subtriangular area (26m WNW-ESE; 18m NNE-SSW) defined by a bank (int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.25m; Wth at top 2.3m; overall Wth 7.3m) SE-S, open S-WSW and defined by a linear bank which appears to be incorporated into an earth and stone field boundary (H 0.5-0.75m) to NW and NE. The interior is partially grass covered and is dominated by scrub consisting of whitethorn and briars. There are low, uninscribed gravemarkers (H 0.2-0.4m; L0.3-0.6m) within the scrub area along with some loose stone, which may derive from field clearance. A short portion of field boundary extends (long-axis NW-SE) from the N corner of the monument.
