Kilcloony Church (in ruins)

At the base of a ridge, c. 150m S of Deerpark River, near W limits of Ballinasloe town; it stands within a rectangular graveyard. According to OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1 512-14), this was traditionally regarded as the site of the E. Chr. church of St Grellan. Present remains consist of a medieval parish church (E-W; L 15m, Wth 5m) in fair condition. Architectural features include a pointed arch doorway and round-headed window in S wall, and an ogee-headed window in E gable. The OS Letters (ibid.) also refer to a very small window in W gable, no trace of which survives.
