An elegantly-composed gateway incorporating fine stone work together with early-surviving wrought iron gates, the decorative quality of which enhances the artistic design importance of the composition. The gateway makes an attractive impression in the streetscape, and contributes significantly to the character of a site that has been comprehensively redeveloped in the late twentieth century. The site is of additional importance for its historic associations with the Devonshire estate.
