Kerrynacarragh Fort

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kerrynacarragh Fort is a fairy fort in County Clare, an earthen ring where human history has thinned into myth. The soil may still hold the shape of hands that built it, yet local story claims the fort belongs to unseen residents who tolerate rather than invite visitors. Its boundary is not written in stone but in warning, a reminder that some places keep their own time and measure human presence by patience.

Kerrynacarragh Fort, Cloontabonniv is a ringfort, typically dating to the early medieval period (c. 500–1000 AD), and represents a common type of agricultural and defensive settlement in early Irish society. Local folklore often associates such forts with the "fairy folk," and they may have been considered sacred or inhabited by supernatural beings in traditional belief systems.
