This black commemorative plaque records: This plaque is erected as a "thank you" to John Gould MBE a resident of Newbury, founder member of the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust, and ex working boatman. Without John Gould there would not be a Kennet & Avon Canal today. His efforts and energy are an example to everyone. March 1997
John Gould MBE was a resident of Newbury and founder member of the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust, instrumental in the restoration of the Kennet & Avon Canal, significantly contributing to its revival and preservation for future generations.
