Parliamentarian and Royalist forces fought at the Battle of Newbury in 1643 during the English Civil War. The indecisive outcome failed to determine the war's outcome, but the battle highlighted the growing strength of the Royalist cause in the West Country and delayed Parliament's advance into southern England.
