Julia Grenan

Julia Grenan was born in Dublin on 2 July 1883, the only girl in her family, and grew up beside Elizabeth O'Farrell near Lombard Street. They became nationalists, suffragettes and members of Cumann na mBan, trained in firearms by Constance Markievicz before the Easter Rising of 1916. During the Rising they carried dispatches, nursed the wounded and hid ammunition under their clothes, refusing evacuation until the final retreat to Moore Street.
