This blue commemorative plaque records: All Saints The ancient parish church of Pontefract. Present building 13-15th Century. Ruined in 1645 during Civil War. Tower and Transept restored 1831. New nave 1967. Noted for double helix staircase. Sketched by Turner.
Joseph Mallord William Turner RA was a renowned British Romantic landscape painter and printmaker, widely regarded as one of the greatest masters of British watercolor; he sketched All Saints Church in Pontefract, contributing to its artistic documentation.
