John Meade, 1st Earl of Clanwilliam, died in County Dublin, Ireland, on 19 October 1800. He was an Anglo-Irish nobleman who inherited wealthy estates but lost them through reckless spending and debauchery. His life ended in the same region where he had risen to prominence, leaving behind a title that would later name a town in South Africa.
