John Hely-Hutchinson, 2nd Earl of Donoughmore

John Hely-Hutchinson, born in Dublin in 1757, became the unexpected saviour of Egypt when he seized command after Abercromby fell at Alexandria. He forced twenty-two thousand French soldiers into surrender, breaking Napoleon's grip on the region and earning a golden crescent from the Ottoman Sultan. He never married, died in Tipperary in 1832, and left behind a military legend rather than a family line.
