John Field was born in Dublin on 26 July 1782, though he left Ireland young and never returned. He became famous across Europe as a pianist and composer, earning the title Father of the Nocturne for creating music inspired by night. He taught in Russia, impressed Beethoven, and helped shape piano music before dying in Moscow in 1837. Dublin gave birth to a man who changed how the world heard darkness.
