This blue commemorative plaque records: This mansion and its neighbour, amongst the oldest surviving purpose-built banks in the country, were built in the 1790s for Ingram and Kennet. J. B. Dykes 1823-76, prolific composer of hymn tunes came to live here in 1841 Recorded plaque organisation: Wakefield Civic Society.
John Bacchus Dykes was a prolific British composer best known for his hymn tunes, including "Melita" for "Eternal Father, Strong to Save"; he lived in this mansion from 1841.
