Sive is still being performed because John B. Keane wrote it in Listowel, County Kerry. The play follows an eighteen-year-old orphan married for money to an old farmer, then lost on the bog the night before her wedding. Keane was a local publican who watched that cruel trade happen around him. The tragedy is not decoration; it is a warning about what certainty does to young lives.
