Jeremiah O'Rourke

Jeremiah O'Rourke was born in Dublin, Ireland on February 6, 1833, the youngest of eight children. He left for America at seventeen, worked for a Newark carpenter, and spent the next sixty years drawing churches and post offices until his death in 1915. The cathedral he designed still stands in Newark, its stones holding the shape of a boy who crossed an ocean with little more than skill and hunger.
