77 Castlegate stands in Jedburgh as a nineteenth-century terraced house, its stone walls compressed against the town's oldest traffic. It may have sheltered weavers, merchants or servants whose names vanished while the building kept their heat. The house still occupies the same narrow line on Castlegate, waiting for someone to remember what life moved behind its windows.
