James Sheridan Muspratt

James Sheridan Muspratt was born in Dublin in 1821 but left at one year old, so the city gave him a name and let him go. He grew up inside his father's chemical empire in Liverpool, studied under Thomas Graham and Justus von Liebig, then taught others in a disused stable behind his own house. His two-volume chemistry book crossed into German and shaped manufacturing practice across Europe. He died young in 1871, leaving daughters, a marriage broken by grief, and pages still useful decades later.
