This blue commemorative plaque records: James Boswell and Samuel Johnson. This is the site of Glass's Inn, 29 South St where Boswell and Dr Johnson has supper on 18th August 1773. "We had a dreary drive, in a dusky night, to St Andrews where we arrived late. We found a good supper at Glass's Inn, and Dr Johnson revived agreeably... ...After supper, we made a procession to Saint Leonard's College, the landlord walking before us with a candle, and the waiter with the lantern." - (James Boswell, Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides with Samuel Johnson, 1785) The Inn existed until at least 1830. James Boswell and Dr. Samuel Johnson were prominent figures of 18th-century British literature; their supper at Glass's Inn on August 18, 1773, was part of Boswell's documented tour to the Hebrides, offering insights into their relationship and contemporary life.
