Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Islay, Mulreesh, Cill Eileagain as Cross Incised Stone (early Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Linked to St. Eileag, an early Christian saint associated with Islay, the site may have been a place of pilgrimage or ritual. Local tradition suggests the saint was a hermit or healer, and such stones often mark the locations of ancient chapels or holy wells.
