What is recorded here
Crannog is the local name for an island built by human hands, and that is what this place may have been before it sank or was forgotten. The official label still carries the word possibly because the evidence has blurred with age. What is certain is that the site exists in County Derry and that people once shaped the land there. The rest has gone quiet, leaving only the shape of a choice made long before anyone could remember it.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as ISLAND, possibly CRANNOG. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
