Iona, St Oran's Cross

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Iona, St Oran's Cross as Cross (early Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

St Oran's Cross on Iona is associated with St Oran, a 6th-century Irish monk and one of the original Columban monks who founded the monastery on Iona. According to tradition, St Oran was buried in a hollow tree, and his grave was later marked by a cross, believed to be the site of this early medieval monument.
