Inscribed slab in Kildare

A large collection of cross slabs, grave slabs, decorated stones and three effigies (See KD022-029023- and KD022-029027- to KD022-029057-), dating from the 10th to the 17th centuries have been placed in St. Brigid’s Cathedral (KD022-029005-). KD022-029047-: On the N side of the chancel. According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 3, 236), a coffin-shaped limestone slab (L 2.33m; Wth 0.58-0.78m; T 0.15m) is decorated in false relief with a marginal inscription in Roman capitals: ‘ORATE PRO ANIMABVS IOHANNIS LY DE RABRID ARMIGER/ ET AMY FITZGERALD/ VXORI EIVS/ COMMENDAMVS/ ANIMAS NOSTRAS IN MANVS SALVATORIS DOMINI NOSTRI IESV/ CRISTI’. There is also a Maltese cross on steps, with an inscription on the shaft: ‘DATVM V11 DIE MAY 1612 IOHANNIS LI’. There is an INRI above the cross and ‘NICC..’ at the foot.
