What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular earthen enclosure on a Galway rise, holding thirty metres of forgotten purpose inside a bank still proud enough to touch. Thistles once choked its centre, suggesting life and neglect rather than abandoned dead space. The land remembers shape even when human memory fades, and the circle remains visible because people kept returning far enough to mark it.

On a rise in gently rolling grassland, formerly part of Turoe demesne. Circular enclosure (diam. 30m), in fair condition, defined by an earthen bank (Wth 1.6m; ext. H 1m; int. H 0.6m) planted with trees and bushes. Slight traces of an external fosse (Wth 2m) are visible at NW. A gap at ENE appears to be modern. The interior rises towards the centre and was densely overgrown with thistles at the time of inspection. Possibly a tree-ring enclosure but the siting and dimensions of the bank are typical of raths in this area. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 3 August 2018
