What is recorded here

Small circular island in Cuillaghan Lough, c. 150m from the shoreline. Marked on all OS eds. Hall recorded digging into a mound at the centre of the island and finding a substantial bed of ashes and debris incorporating coarse black sherds of pottery, fragments of quernstones, large quantities of broken bones and a grooved stone. An oak dugout canoe was discovered at that time on the SE shore. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
