What is recorded here

In pasture near the top of a moderately steep W-facing slope. A large subcircular area (int. diams. 48m N-S; 44m E-W) is enclosed by an inner earthen bank (max. int. H 0.5m; Wth 3.5m at S to 6m at N and ENE; ext. H 1.2m at S to 1.9m at N) which has been reduced to a scarp at E (H 1.2m) and W (H 1.6m). A flat-bottomed fosse (base Wth 3.5m at N to 7m at S) runs outside the inner bank except between E and ESE where it is disturbed by later field walls. An outer earthen bank (int. H over fosse 0.9-1.3m; Wth 4-6m; ext. H 0.6m at ENE to 1.1m at W) runs outside the fosse. It has also been disturbed by later field walls between ENE and SSE and a later field wall (H 1.3m; Wth 1.8m) runs on top of this bank from SSE to SW. Traces of a second fosse (Wth 2m) and a partially dug-out third, outer bank (int. H 0.5m; Wth 4m; ext. H 1.3m survive between WSW and WNW. All the enclosing banks are lightly overgrown, partially denuded and are breached by narrow livestock gaps. The interior slopes slightly down to W and contains a Man-made underground passage (MA070-121002-) in the NE sector.  Date of visit: 12-05-2025 Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy
