Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated was a rath on elevated Mayo pasture, visible in 1838 but erased by 1930. It kept a circular shape, tree-lined edges and a broad outer bank before human hands flattened it into ordinary ground. What remained was a faint ridge and a memory of enclosure, large enough to hold life but small enough to disappear without witness.
In pasture, on a level expanse of elevated ground, with good views in all directions. Shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a circular embanked enclosure planted with trees; not shown on the 1930 edition. This enclosure, most likely a rath, has been levelled. A slightly raised flat area (27.5m N−S; 34m E−W) defined by a slight undulation/levelled scarp can still be traced at ground level. Outside this are barely discernible undulations suggesting an encircling fosse (Wth c. 2.5m) with an external bank (Wth 4-5m). Trees grow on the perimeter at W and N.
