Indicated

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a rectangular cashel on high Clare pasture, its collapsed walls still marking a 35m by 31m chamber above an underground passage. Later pens cluster at its edges, suggesting the fort never stopped serving lives, whether human or beast. The ground rises toward the northeast while views drop south, giving the place a deliberate command over the land.
On high ground in pasture, with rising ground from W to NE and commanding views from ESE to S. Within an extensive multiperiod field system (CL005-160001-). Listed as ‘enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). A roughly rectangular cashel (int. dims. 35m N-S; 31m E-W) defined by a collapsed wall spread (Wth 1.2-3.8m) with visible inner wall-facing (H 0.15m) at the NW and outer wall-facing visible at N (H 0.35-0.6m), E (H 0.25m) and S (H 0.5m). The interior of the cashel is uneven and there is a Man-made underground passage (CL010-009002-) near the centre. Later animal pens are placed in the SW corner (est. int. dims. c. 15m E-W; c. 15m N-S), along the N (est. int. dims. c. 4.5m E-W; c. 4m N-S) and outside of the cashel to the SW (est. int. dims. c. 8m E-W; c. 8m N-S) and NW (est. int. dims. c. 2.9m E-W; c. 2.5m N-S).
