What is recorded here

Indicated is a lost ringfort in County Mayo, Ireland. Local tradition claims the site was levelled, though an 1838 map still marked a circular enclosure. That disappearance turns the field into a trap for memory: facts collide, vision hesitates, and an ordinary place becomes a test of judgment.
In pasture, on high ground on E-facing slope. According to local tradition, site of levelled ringfort. Shown on OS map (1838) as circular enclosure. No visible surface traces. The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 386. Date of upload: 14 November 2013
