Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Oran, County Roscommon, Ireland. It appears as a circular grass-covered area measuring forty-three metres north-south and forty metres east-west on the north-facing slope of a ridge. A slight scarp two decimetres high defines the boundary, while another rath sits forty metres to the east. The 1837 Ordnance Survey map marked the enclosure at roughly forty-five metres across.
Marked as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 45m) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on the N-facing slope of a WNW-ESE ridge. Circular grass-covered area (dims. 43m N-S; 40m E-W) defined by a slight scarp (H 0.2m). Rath (RO034-085----) is c. 40m to the E. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
