Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated was a thirty-metre fairy fort on a west-facing slope above the Owenbaun River, visible on maps from 1842 to 1936 before ploughs erased it. The land remembers the shape even when the soil forgets the name.
In pasture, on W-facing slope overlooking Owenbaun River. Depicted as circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842, 1904 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps. Levelled; no visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
