Indicated is a ruined ecclesiastical enclosure at Oughtmama, County Clare, where a curved stone wall still marks the edge of a sacred place. It stands at the south-east end of a fertile valley beneath Turlough Hill, containing two older churches within a narrower inner circle. The outer wall has largely fallen, yet field boundaries still follow its line, suggesting the enclosure shaped local life long after worship faded.

At the SE end of a large fertile valley at the N foot of Turlough Hill. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). A poorly preserved enclosure (est. diam. 270m) defined by a tumbled wall (Wth at N 2.8m; H 0.2-0.4m) traceable at N and S where later field boundaries follow its curving line. This enclosure encompasses the entire ecclesiastical complex at Oughtmama. A smaller enclosure (CL003-032001-) lies within enclosing the two closely associated more westerly churches (CL003-032002- and CL003-032003-). The area between the two enclosures, especially N of the churches has been subdivided into narrow striped fields. One wall acts as a townland boundary and extends from the inner enclosure to the outer. This may represent the line of an older internal subdivision.
