What is recorded here

Indicated is a ruined stone ringfort on a low rise above a small river flowing into Lough Currane, South Kerry. Its wall stands half to two and a half metres high around a fifteen metre space, with no visible entrance and only scattered stones inside. The site may have been a home, a boundary marker or a forgotten shelter, but time has removed most of its purpose.

Internal diam. 15m N-S, 14.3m E-W This severely denuded caher is situated on top of a low rise, just N of a small river which flows into Lough Currane at SW. The foundations of the enclosing wall comprise rock outcrops and large boulders, above which are stretches of rough drystone coursing. Externally the wall varies from .5m to 2.5m high. Its overgrown inner face survives .9m high at N, but elsewhere it does not rise appreciably above the level of the interior. There is no discernible entrance to the site. Loose stones are scattered throughout its interior, but do not form any recognisable pattern. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
