What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Kilcloghan, County Roscommon, Ireland. It sits on the eastern edge of a low ridge above Lough Nablahy, marking a circular area thirty-two metres across. An earthen bank and outer ditch define most of the boundary, while a scarp completes the remaining section.

Towards the top of the E-facing slope at the E end of a low E-W drumlin ridge overlooking Lough Nablahy (dims c. 1.5 km NE-SW; c. 400m NW-SE), which is c. 170m to the S. Circular area (diam. 32m N-S; 30m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.65m; int. H 0.25-0.55m; ext. H 1m) and outer fosse (Wth 2.5-2.7m; D 0.4-0.55m) SSW-N, and elsewhere by a scarp (H 0.4-0.65m). There is a record of a house site (RO017-139002-) (ext. dims c. 6m x c. 6m) NW of the centre in 1982 (SMR file), but it is no longer visible. A N-S field bank bisects the site, and the monument is overgrown to the W and grass-covered to the E. Rath (RO017-140----) is c. 130m to the E.
