What is recorded here

Indicated was a circular rath in County Kilkenny, about forty-two metres across, marked on the first Ordnance Survey map in 1839. By the 1900 revision its western edge still showed, but the main structure had disappeared, suggesting local people levelled the earthworks during that gap. The fort may have stood as a home, a boundary marker or a forgotten ritual site before human needs consumed it.

Indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (overall diam. c. 42m). On the 1900 revision of this map the W portion is outlined but the monument itself appears to have been levelled. It is not visible on Digitalglobe satellite imagery (viewed 9 November 2020). According to Doyle (1981, unpublished) this was a rath which is, 'no longer there. It is said that it was about thirty yards [c. 27m] wide, with a shallow trench surrounding'.
