Indicated is a lost bullaun stone inside a collapsed penal chapel on a SW-facing hillside in County Clare. Cunningham wrote about the small stone in 1980, but by 1997 the ruins had crumbled and vanished beneath growth. The chapel may have held prayers, music or silence before the land took it back.

Situated within a penal chapel (CL002-063002-) set into a SW-facing hillside. A small bullaun stone is mentioned by Cunningham (1980, 27-8) within the ruins of a small penal chapel. On inspection in 1997 the building was found to be collapsed and much overgrown and the bullaun stone was no longer in evidence. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 30 November 2015

Likely dating to the early Christian period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purification or as part of ecclesiastical practice, reflecting the spiritual life of a hidden Catholic community during the penal era.
