Indicated is a circular earthen fort on a small Monaghan hillock, marked as a fort in gothic lettering on the 1834 map. Its bank still stands beside deciduous trees, though no entrance or ditch remains visible. The place may have begun as a human rath and later become a boundary for growth, memory or myth.

Situated on a small hillock in a low-lying landscape between drumlins. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 40m) with trees is depicted on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ’fort’. This is a circular area (diam. 30.5m E-W; 30m N-S) planted with deciduous trees which is defined by an earthen bank (at E: Wth of base 2.1m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1m) that has an outer stone facing N-S-W, but the bank is reduced to a stone-faced scarp elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or entrance. This is probably a rath that has been re-used as a tree-ring. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
