What is recorded here

Indicated is a low earthen ringfort on a Longford ridge, visible only when the grass is short and the light is flat. It appeared on maps decades after nearby forts, suggesting people still recognized the shape before surveyors named it. The earth may have swallowed a doorway, a hearth or a whole life, leaving behind a subtle rise that challenges modern certainty.

On a prominent ridge in pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1883 revised ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Not indicated on the 1837 ed. A report in 1976 (SMR file) noted that this raised subcircular area (c. 26m E-W; c. 24m N-S) was enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone. It is delimited by a poorly defined, broad, low scarp (H 0.3-0.9m). Some large boulders lie immediately outside it at S and W.
