What is recorded here

Indicated is a ruined stone ringfort in County Cork, Ireland. Its broken wall still marks a circular home where people lived, loved and vanished before memory failed. The nearby field keeps the name Pairc naCathrac, while an underground passage may still breathe beneath the trees.

In undulating pasture, on SE-facing slope. Circular area (diam. 34m) enclosed by low collapsed stone wall (T c. 4-8m) S->ESE, topped by later stone field boundary (H 1.5m). Earth and stone bank (max. int. H 1.9m) ESE->S, stone-faced externally, may incorporate remains of limekiln. Interior planted with trees; possible Man-made underground passage (CO060-157002-) in NW quadrant. According to Hartnett (1939, 98) 'adjacent field is known as Pairc naCathrac' and spindle whorl found near fort is now in UCC.
