What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Cloonrabrackan, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the top of a low drumlin and presents an oval grass-covered area measuring sixty-nine metres north-south and forty-two point four metres east-west. An earthen bank and hedge define the perimeter, while facing stones appear at the north-northeast, east and west. A stone-lined entrance sits at the east, now widened on the north side, and grass-covered wall foundations extend west from the inner bank face.

On top of a low drumlin. Oval grass-covered area (dims 69m N-S; 42.4m E-W) defined by an earthen bank and hedge (Wth 3.6-4.2m; int. H 0.4-0.7m; ext. H 0.3m at W to 1.6m at N) with facing-stones visible at NNE, E and W (at W: original Wth 1.5m) and an outer fosse (Wth of top 5.2-6m; Wth of base 3.1-3.6m; D 0.4-0.5m). The stone-lined entrance (Wth 1.8m), now widened on the N side (Wth 5m), is at E, and 6m S of this the grass-covered foundations of a wall (Wth 1.4m; H 0.3m; L 4m), perhaps the remains of a house (RO023-181002-), run W from the inner face of the bank. Mound (RO023-181003-) is 6m outside the fosse at SW and rath (RO023-182001-) is c. 190m to the SE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
