Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort on a rise in low-lying pasture in County Longford, Ireland. Its shallow circular scarps and scattered boulders mark a place where human life may have turned, hidden or transformed before memory failed.
On a rise in low-lying pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A raised subcircular area (c. 32 NW-SE; c. 29m N-S) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone at S (Wth 2m; H 0.2m) and elsewhere defined by a scarp (H 0.4-0.6m). Some large boulders at the perimeter may represent wall-footings. A report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded traces of an external fosse, which are no longer identifiable. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 26 August 2011
