What is recorded here

In pasture, on top of a low ridge with a commanding view in all directions. A raised circular area (diam. c. 37m) enclosed by a flat-topped earthen bank (Wth 3.9m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.8m) SE-NNW and by a scarp (H 1.2m) elsewhere. There is a gap in the bank at NE and WSW. The rath is grass-covered. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Cloonarara is a circular earthen ringfort, likely dating to the early medieval period, characterized by a flat-topped bank and scarp. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy dwellings, and they were often avoided due to beliefs in supernatural inhabitants.
