One of two stone bridges depicted on a 17th-century drawing by Thomas Dineley (1681) across the river Fergus immediately N of Clonroad Castle (CL033-084001-). In the drawing, this more westerly bridge linked the arched entrance to the bawn with the N side of the river. It was built at an existing fording point, facilitated by a shelf of flat limestone outcrop that provided a firm footing. This still exists under the modern bridge.
